Vision

I envision a public school where 7-12th graders of all ethnic backgrounds, dressed in business attire, are achieving a high level of academic excellence in the High School of Business and Technology (HSBT).

Students will interact in an environment with “state of the art” equipment and business materials. They will also be surrounded by classrooms with a plush corporate office decorum. The students will indulge in a student business resource center where they will interact daily with live business experiences. Their daily program will allow them to work in an on-site business school store, one that will be designed and developed by them.  Students will also participate in off-site internships and hands-on business activities.

Their knowledge and appearance will show their eagerness to share business and technology practices with local community businesses, and neighboring schools. The confidence, knowledge, and expertise of these students will broadcast throughout the community where other children in the community and abroad will thirst for the opportunity to be apart of the HSBT.

Mission

It is the mission of the High School of Business and Technology to graduate students within 5 years, who have achieved the educational academic standards, as set by the Board of Regents, and equip them with employable skills to become successful entrepreneurs, business majors, and productive citizens.

Our students will experience a wealth of knowledge and experience through an extensive internship program with business professionals and partnerships. Students will also partake in college and career preparation, which includes: college tours, opportunity fairs, and job shadowing.

Students will become young business leaders as they interact with established businesses and are educated in a student-centered business oriented environment.

Our students will interface with the latest technological equipment as we prepare them for both the academic and technological advances that lie ahead. And HSBT will hold high academic standards and expectations for all staff, parents, and students.

New School Proposal Highlights

  • A bullet proof, school model designed to attract incoming high school students; motivate current students with less than 10 credits; and elevate community engagement.

  • Broad range offering of English Language Learner (ELL) and Transitional Bilingual education, tutoring and testing services for schools with predominately ELL students ensuring all students receive, first-rate, education - leaving no student behind.

  • Implementation of innovative, interactive and engaging Professional Development Workshops (i.e. Ramp-Up to Literacy, The 7-Habits of an Efficient Reader, Differentiation of Instruction, Workshop Model/Balanced Literacy Approach and Budgeting) with focus on serving the ELL population. Such Professional Development Workshops will entail utilization of robust, training and development tools including PowerPoint presentations, multimedia, manuals, quick reference guides, group dynamics activities, role-plays and job aids geared toward enriching, inspiring and strengthening capacity in teachers.

  • Education pathways geared toward high demand professions such as Computer Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, Medicine and Law.

  • Implementation of pre- and post-observation conferences and coaching sessions prior to and after Instructional Learning Walks, instituting best practices; enriching curriculum; and conducting ARIS assessments.

  • Collaboration and interaction with other campus-based schools and programs with emphasis in serving the needs of specialized populations inclusive of Special Education.

  • Acceleration of academic achievement through enforcement of gold standard instruction.
